Instead of waiting a few days to know whether the manufacturing company has provided their device to the Indian market, or if the company has delayed its shipment, you could get a more precise appraisal of the situation in India, and also get a hint of a possible new release date for the product, in less time than it takes for the international shipment to arrive.

Starting today, the good people over at Phoronix have started a Canonical “packages” database feature, an effort to standardize our coverage and development of Ubuntu packaging repositories for the Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) release.

So, if you want to know how the 16.04 LTS packaging repositories are progressing and make sure you know the latest versions that are available for you to upgrade to, then you should head on over to Phoronix.

Since Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) is making its way into the wild, it’s a good idea to be keeping a close watch on the development of it, since it’s a feature release and may be prone to any number of bugs and issues that do not usually show up in the non-LTS versions of the distro.

Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) releases are currently on track for the official release on April 24, 2016.

If you don’t want to wait until April 24th, you can grab the release candidate for Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) from our website.

If you’re new to Ubuntu (or Linux) you’ll be very happy to know that there’s a new three step installer to help you get started with Ubuntu, as well as other aspects of the Debian-based operating system.

Firstly, you’ll be greeted by the Ubuntu Software Centre, which is a way of managing your applications, software, installable programs, software updates, your desktop and various application settings.

If you want to learn more about the Ubuntu Software Centre, click here.

The second step of the new Ubuntu installer will be to choose if you want to install or not, and to change the default Ubuntu operating system language. If you’re happy with the default operating system language, and you don’t have to change it, then everything will be installed to the default setting.

The third step will be to choose what you want to do with your newly

Why does const std::string& work here?

This works:
const std::string& s = “foo”;

But this doesn’t (error C2334):
const std::string s = “foo”;

Why is this the case? Is there some overload of operator= that happens in the first case to “de-reference” s, but not in the second case?
Also, how is const applied to a named constant?

A:

When you define
const std::string& s = “foo”;

It is kind of like a pointer definition, which means that you are now assigning a value to a pointer. That’s why you see the expected error from pointer overload.
However, when you just declared it, as in
const std::string s = “foo”;

Then you have a variable assignment, which doesn’t require a pointer overload. Therefore, it’s working.
There is no difference between a named constant and a typedef. So, I believe that the declaration const std::string s = “foo”; and const std::string& s = “foo”; are equivalent.
Hope that helps.

Using the ADODB Command object in Excel VBA

I am trying to use a query within Excel VBA using the ADODB.Command object in Excel 2007. I am able to execute queries from the Microsoft Access database fine, but when I try to use the Excel ADODB.Command object I get an error which I cannot fix:

The Microsoft Access database engine cannot find the object ‘Agent![Agent Query]’ because it does not exist or you do not have permissions.

It happens on line:
acRow = 1 ‘to count the rows
Set dbCommand = New ADODB.Command
Set dbCommand.ActiveConnection = cnn
dbCommand.CommandText = “Agent”

Here are the connection details (I have simplified):
Dim cnn As ADODB.Connection
Dim sqlString As String
Dim strConnect As String

‘….

Set cnn = New ADODB.Connection
cnn.ConnectionString = strConnect
cnn.Open

I have tried strConnect = “Provider=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0;Data Source=C:\Agent\Agent\File.accdb;” and strConnect = “Provider=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0;Data Source=Agent\Agent\File.accdb;” with the same error message.
I have also tried including the database in the Program Files folder with the same error message.
What do I need to do to fix the error? I am on Windows XP and Office 2007 SP2.

A:

So you need to make sure you have the Microsoft access db engine installed on your machine. (it might be in microsoft access control panel),
