You can use software such as Gimp, or Fireworks. These are both excellent software but they are most definitely not Photoshop. They cannot handle the many features that Photoshop has to offer and a complete redesign is years away.

Photoshop alternatives have been around for years. In fact, some are well known such as Pixelmator Pro. Some are known as general photo editors such as the free Adobe Photoshop Elements and Adobe Photoshop Express.
