The poster pits against each other the movie’s two warring factions – the orcish Horde and the human Alliance.

On the left side, slathered in red warpaint with protruding tusks pierced, is leader of the Horde Ogrim, played by Fantastic Four’s Dr Doom, Toby Kebbel.

On the right is Alliance champion Anduin Lothar, played by bearded Vikings star Travis Fimmel.

According to the official website, the film is set in the normally peaceful realm of Azeroth, now on the brink of war as its civilization faces a fearsome race of invaders: Orc warriors fleeing their dying home to colonize another

‘As a portal opens to connect the two worlds, one army faces destruction and the other faces extinction. From opposing sides, two heroes are set on a collision course that will decide the fate of their family, their people and their home.’

The film is directed by David Bowie’s son Duncan Jones, who was also behind 2009’s Moon and 2011’s Source Code.

He has indicated before that it will not be a straight good vs evil story – that each side will have a protagonist whom audiences could root for.

It also stars Dominic Cooper, Ben Foster and Ruth Negga as Alliance members, and Robert Kazinsky and Clancy Brown as Orcs.

As the half-orc Garona, Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol star Paula Patton may have the most interesting roll of all, forced to choose between the sides.

Colin Farrell was once attached to the project, and although he never saw it through he did confirm that the script was ‘amazing’ and akin to Lord of the Rings.

Videogame fans have long awaited any film that will do its source material justice; traditionally films based on games perform poorly, ranging from the decent efforts of Silent Hill, Resident Evil, Doom, and Mortal Kombat, to the abysmal Mario Bros, Street Fighter, Alone In The Dark, Mortal Kombat Annihilation.

Fans must only wait until Friday to finally see footage from the film, with the long-awaited first trailer finally making its debut.

Having wrapped filming back in May, it was scheduled for release on December 18, but pushed it back to Jun 10 to avoid the release of Star Wars The Force Awakens.

Marc Merrill teases League of Legends MMO after Runeterra map release

It’s been a long-running joke within the League of Legends community that Riot Games don’t deserve the ‘s’ in their name with the MOBA being the companies only major video game title.

In October it will be nine years since LoL released and it could finally be time that we see the game’s rich group of characters explored in a different genre.

Riot co-founder Marc ‘Tryndamere’ Merrill has teased the possibility of a LoL-themed MMO in future after the release of an  which showcases the game’s world, Runeterra.

Back in October last year, Merrill and fellow Riot co-founder Brandon ‘Ryze’ Beck took on  within Riot so that they could be more involved with game design again.

The duo have dropped most of their management responsibilities to work closely with their team on creating new games. Riot bought Fighting Game company Radiant Entertainment back in 2016, flyff leading to rife speculation that a LoL fighting game would be released.

However, a simple tweet of ‘Should we build a MMO? Yay or nay?’ from Tryndamere set the LoL community alight as fan’s imaginations and excitement ran wild.

The tweet is Merrill’s most engaged post ever with over 17,000 likes and 3,000 retweets at the time of writing. Many high profile names from LoL’s esports community such as pro player Yilliang ‘Doublelift’ Peng and commentator Isaac ‘Azael’ Cummings were quick to show their support for the idea.

There are 141 characters in LoL which is more than enough to populate any genre of game and would certainly lend itself to an MMO. Boss battles against Void monsters like Cho’Gath, stopping the Ice Witch Lissandra’s diabolical plans or even exploring the Yordle forests with Teemo are just examples of possible quests.

The interactive map does a wonderful job of displaying how diverse and intriguing the world of Runeterra is. From the on-going conflict between the dual city-states of Piltover and Zaun to the fallen desert empire of Shurima – there are many lands and stories to be explored.

Climbing Mount Taragon, becoming a pirate on Bilgewater, protecting Ionia with Shen and the rest of the Kinkou Order, exploring the Shadow Isles or taking part in the war between Noxus and Demacia – the possibilities are endless and that’s exactly what you would hope for from an MMO or MMORPG.
